Grassroots critical pedagogy: a popular education remix

This project is a made up of a crew of practitioners dedicated to creating social justice and the participation of youth, working class and people of color in the process. Their objectives are

to bring grassroots critical pedagogy to new communities for consciousness formation, leadership development, and movement building;

to advance the work begun by Paulo Freire and popular education projects in the US and Canada over the past four decades;

to develop a special focus and programs for young, working class leaders of color coming up;

to learn, create, and weave intersecting cultural and political ideas and practices into the larger project of community education for change.

Creative projects inspired by the ideas of Paulo Freire and popular education have helped generate autonomous grassroots organizations and broaden the class and racial diversity of projects and campaigns. They are generating conscientious and compassionate community leaders in North American social movements and civic participation.
